Von Ebert East opened in mid-July at Glendoveer Golf Course, replacing Ringside Grill as the restaurant next to the Pro Shop. This is the second location for Von Ebert, following their takeover of Ohio-based Fat Heads Brewing in NW Portland. Construction of a new brewery at the East location is well underway, with a new 7-barrel, 3.5 vessel brewhouse slated to be complete sometime in September or October. Other new additions include multiple foudres, wine puncheons, barrel storage, oak fruiting tanks, and a coolship.
Von Ebert Brewing – East: 14021 NE Glisan St, Portland, OR 97230
Hours: Monday-Thursday 11am-11pm, Friday-Saturday 11am-12am, Sunday 11am-10pm
Personally, I’ve been melting in the heat waves this summer. When I toured the new spot, it was in the upper 90’s and I beelined to a light, refreshing beer. I tasted a couple of the fruitier options, and settled on Bière de Rose. It was brewed in the Bière de Garde style as a tribute to the Portland Thorns soccer team, and is made with strawberry, rhubarb, and pomegranate.
For now, all the beer is brewed at the NW location. After the new system is installed though, the focus will be German lagers, saisons, and Belgian inspired beers. They’ll also feature spontaneous, mixed culture, and sour beers.
Von Ebert Restaurant
Through this temporary wall will be another dining area, but most importantly, the new brewery. When I visited last, they had just poured the concrete floors. For now, the space is hidden from view while they work. The new location has occupancy for about 250 people and allows minors.
The restaurant contains a full service bar, multiple dining spaces, and two patios. The decor is minimal, changed ever so slightly from what Ringside had in place. Paint and lighting are really the only obvious differences. The addition of taxidermy seemed to lend to the theme? It appeared to be the beginning of a lodge-style collection.
Both patios look over the golf course, which was abuzz with activity. It was ok to venture out into the grass surrounding the patio, the only way to access the corn hole boards to the side. Once the weather calms down, I think these outdoor spaces will be a really pleasant space to hangout.
Von Ebert Food Menu
The menu at the East location is similar to that in Northwest. You’ll find things like salads, wings, burgers, sandwiches, and pizzas. I opted to try the Balsamic Kale Deluxe pizza (with arugula instead of kale, per my preference). It hit the spot!
